Another world is possible…

Went to a creative writing class for the first time, and the above was the title I chose for my debut composition. We were provided with 4 sample sentences, then given 7 minutes to write a story or poem inspired by our choice. This was the one I plumped for:

The preacher is so convincing that he almost persuades the listeners that he has first-hand experience of better worlds.

The following is what I came up with…

Slowly, but with increasing interest, a crowd of passers-by began to congregate before the passionate speaker. By now he was so hoarse that those further back had to lean in closer, straining to hear him make his testimony. Before long, those present were rapt with wonder at this peculiar fellow pouring forth an avalanche of knowledge, conjecture and commands. Some thought him mad, but most were energized by his boundless enthusiasm and evident optimism. One or two were familiar with the speaker, and knew of his oratorical acumen, how priceless it was to have such a master of rhetoric and emotion. A mere fifteen minutes after he had begun, the preacher was so convincing that he had almost persuaded the listeners that he had first-hand experience of better worlds. In a way, he had. For no individual who has had his eyes opened to the suffering of mankind, and to the direct cause of the suffering, can refrain from speaking of the world which must arise in response. A world of justice, freedom and peace. A world of solidarity, equality and liberty. A world of socialism.

Solidarity brothers & sisters…★
