Immortality must Die

Dear Sir/Madam,

It is with the most sincere admiration that we congratulate the team of scientists who earlier this week announced their momentous discovery. The ‘secret to immortality’ is one which many have tried and failed to unveil since our species first developed self-awareness, indeed this desire to ‘cheat death’ almost certainly lies behind the development of religion all around the world. Make no mistake about it, this breakthrough is unprecedented, overwhelming, and epoch-shattering.

However, we must object to the sharing of these findings. We strenuously, desperately and earnestly urge you, and everyone who has the technological capability, to stave off the adoption of measures that would prolong life indefinitely.

If nobody ever passes, our population will explode. As it is, with death an every-second occurrence, we struggle to feed and clothe the 10 billion people who reside on this planet. We grapple with the issue of aging populations in so-called ‘developed’ countries. If the ability to survive infinitely is granted to us, our entire human race will collapse.

Death is to life what the moon is to the Earth: The latter has no structure, no ebb and flow without the former. The former may seem barren, desolate and unknowably terrifying, but it gives meaning to the existence of the latter. All good things must come to an end…

We the undersigned therefore petition you, to safeguard this secret and pledge to do everything in your power to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands – any hands – in ensuring that it never be acted upon.

Yours etc…

Solidarity, brothers & sisters…
